Give Kids The World
24. april 2011
Today I volunteered in Give Kids The World together with other Cast Members from Norway and my manager.
Give Kids The World (GKTW) is a nonprofit resort in Kissimmee for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness by a licensed doctor are eligible for a GKTW Wish. The children and their families usually check in at the GKTW resort and get a accommodation for a week to have fun with their family, and they visit the Walt Disney World, Sea World etc with donated tickets…
I first was put in the restaurant to give out food for the guests, but only after 10 minutes I got a new task.
I was going to ride around in a golf-car on the resort property giving out home made cookies and lemonade; awesome!
So I drove around for 3 hours and gave a lot of cookies and lemonade to children and their families and talked a lot to the guests…
It was fun and I really felt it was worth volunteering…
Celebrating the life of Grete Waitz 1953-2011
20. april 2011
I woke up to a shock yesterday when I read the news before heading of to work, Grete Waitz was dead, after struggeling with cancer for 6 years.
Grete Waitz has her own statue in the Norwegian pavilion in Epcot, and I decided to honor her memory by buying some flowers on her statue.
Grete Waitz is one of the most famous Norwegians in USA. She meant a lot for women and womens sport, showing the world that women also could do great things. She still has the record of 1500 and 3000 meters back in Norway. She won the New York Marathon 9 times. She won 33 Norwegian championships. She won 6 World Championships. She won a silver medal in the Olympic Games. She won 2 London Marathons. She won 7 Kings Awards in Norway.
There is only two statues of Grete Waitz in the world, one is outside Bislett Stadion and the other is here in the Norwegian pavilion.
Further on, we will continue to celebrate the life and legacy of Grete Waitz in the Norwegian pavilion with deep pride, RIP.
